Streak of quality starts ends at seven (O's lose 5-1)

NEW YORK - Ubaldo Jimenez lasted only four innings tonight against the Mets, ending the rotation's streak of quality starts at seven in a row.

Starters had worked at least six innings in eight consecutive games before Jimenez's early exit.

Jimenez allowed three runs and six hits in four innings, with two walks, one strikeout and a home run. He threw 85 pitches, 49 for strikes.

Jimenez moved to the on-deck circle with one out in the fifth, but he was called back after Mets starter Jacob deGrom hit Everth Cabrera. Pinch-hitter Travis Snider singled to put runners on the corners with out one.

deGrom fielded Alejandro De Aza's tapper and threw to third, where Daniel Murphy tagged out Cabrera. Manager Buck Showalter briefly argued that Murphy blocked the bag.

Jimmy Paredes delivered an RBI single to reduce the Mets lead to 3-1 and Adam Jones walked to load the bases, but Chris Davis struck out with the count full to end the inning. Davis is 0-for-3 with three strikeouts to raise his season total to 40 in 24 games.

Brad Brach is working the bottom of the fifth inning.

Cabrera had quite an adventure on the basepaths. He slid into second base on Snider's single before jumping to his feet and racing to third, and he got caught too far off the bag on De Aza's bouncer.

Two runs should have scored on Paredes' single, but Cabrera was in the dugout.

Jimenez was burned by two walks in the second inning that proceeded Dilson Herrera's RBI single, and he allowed three straight one-out singles in the fourth before Curtis Granderson's sacrifice fly to left field. Granderson homered in the third on a 2-0 pitch.

Manny Machado is 2-for-2 with two stolen bases. It's the first time in the majors that he's swiped two bags in the same game.

Update: Herrera hit a two-run homer off Brach in the sixth to give New York a 5-1 lead. He's 3-for-3 with three RBIs after entering the game batting .077 with no home runs or RBIs.

Update II: The Orioles ran their losing streak to the Mets to eight games with tonight's 5-1 defeat.

The Orioles are 12-13 this season and 1-10 when the opponent scores first.

Steve Pearce struck out as a pinch-hitter in the ninth.
