The Clark bar is raised tonight (O's lose 8-3)

Tonight's game had been largely forgettable until the Orioles scored twice in the sixth inning, but we should hold onto the memory of Zach Clark making his major league debut. Clark will turn 30 in July. He agreed to terms on a professional contract while standing with scout Dean Albany in the parking lot at UMBC. It wasn't a hard negotiation. He settled for a cool $1,000. The Orioles interrupted Clark's eighth minor league season yesterday by recalling him. And here he is, pitching in the bigs and getting lots of love on Twitter. The Bowie Baysox: "Big congratulations to Baysox career wins leader @z_clark1 on making his Major League debut tonight" The Frederick Keys: "Former Keys P Zack Clark takes the hill for the #Orioles in the bottom of the 5th in Seattle. His MLB debut. Way to go Zach!" LJ Hoes: "So happy for Zach Clark...This is well deserved couldn't happen to a better person" Steve Johnson: "Here we go Clarky!" Clark didn't allow a run in the fifth. Justin Smoak grounded out, Dustin Ackley walked, Jesus Montero struck out looking, Robert Andino grounded out. Clark threw 15 pitches, eight for strikes. The first one was a 70-mph curveball. His fastball was 88-90 mph. May as well keep him out there. Mariners starter Aaron Harang was cruising along until he remembered that he's Aaron Harang. The Orioles broke up his shutout with Nick Markakis' RBI single with two outs and Adam Jones' RBI double. Manny Machado ignited the rally with a two-out double that extended his hitting streak to 10 games, the longest ever by an Oriole under the age of 21. Machado has six doubles in his last six games. Update: Clark was removed with two outs in the sixth after allowing three runs and three hits. Manager Buck Showalter came out of the dugout after Smoak walked. Clark was giving up some long fly balls. A few of them were caught. T.J. McFarland has resurfaced. Maybe he can take it from here and spare the rest of the bullpen. Update II: Machado continues to rake. His third home run of the season, in the top of the eighth inning, reduced the Mariners' lead to 8-3. Machado's now batting .311. Imagine how good he's going to be when he's old enough to watch an R-rated movie without his parents. Update III: Safeco Field isn't safe for the Orioles anymore. The Orioles drop two of three in this series with tonight's 8-3 loss. Pedro Strop pitched a scoreless eighth, but the adventure continued. He loaded the bases on a strikeout/wild pitch and two walks.
