The Duchscherer timetable keeps changing

Once it became clear that Justin Duchscherer wouldn't be ready for opening night, the Orioles targeted him for an April 10 start. He would be placed in the bullpen until the club needed a fifth starter. Once it became clear that Duchscherer needed more time and innings after making only one appearance in an exhibition game, the Orioles decided to place him on the 15-day disabled list and get him ready for an April 21 start. They're now ready to go with Plan C, which eliminates any possibility of Duchscherer pitching this month. He still hasn't thrown off a mound since undergoing an ablation for his lower back and having an injection in his left hip, and the Orioles are prepared to transfer him to the 60-day disabled list to make room on the 40-man roster for left-handed reliever Clay Rapada. It's the logical move, since the calendar will turn to another page before Duchscherer is able to start. His assignment to the 15-day DL was backdated to March 29. Going to the 60-day DL makes him eligible to return at the end of May. Perhaps his back and hip will allow him to take the ball. Also, the Orioles don't have to place anyone on waivers to clear room on the 40-man. Not that there aren't a few worthy candidates for removal. The Orioles haven't announced any moves, and the clubhouse opens to the media in about 30 minutes. Official word could come shortly.
