Second and third, none out and a run already across in the third inning.
The Orioles could have busted the game wide open, but their only run scored on pitcher A.J. Burnett's throwing error. Three straight batters went down swinging.
Leadoff double for Miguel Tejada in the fourth. Tejada moves to third with one out.
The Orioles could have snapped a 1-1 tie, but they failed to score. Luke Scott struck out and Garrett Atkins fouled out.
Why was the game tied in the top of the fourth? Because Adam Jones tried to make a diving catch of Francisco Cervelli's sinking liner to start the bottom of the third and played the ball into a triple.
How did the Yankees take a 3-1 lead in the fifth? Because Brian Matusz threw the ball away after fielding a bunt and walked Alex Rodriguez with the bases loaded.
Nick Markakis and Tejada singled in the sixth, but nothing materialized.
You see where this one is headed?
Matusz looks like he's going to give the Orioles another quality start, but you fear that it won't really matter.
Update: Matusz was charged with one earned run in six innings.
Scott must lead the league in half-swings. He just looks confused and is guessing wrong on every trip to the plate.
If it makes you feel any better, manager Dave Trembley told reporters that the club will decide tomorrow when it will activate Koji Uehara. Uehara willl be added to the 25-man roster in Minnesota after four scoreless appearances on his injury rehab assignment.
Also, Atkins is heating up. Finally.
RIP Ernie Harwell. Baseball just lost one of the true greats - in the broadcast booth and outside of it.
