Two items to pass along

I wanted to share Double-A Bowie pitching coach Kennie Steenstra's observations of right-hander Koji Uehara, who tossed a scoreless first inning last night against Erie. "He looked good. He mixed his pitches well. Everything was down in the zone," Steenstra said. "I don't think he's going to blow the ball by anybody, but he knows how to change speeds and he knows how to locate, and when you know how to do those things, you're going to get a lot of people out." Uehara gets his second opportunity tomorrow morning at Prince George's Stadium. If Alfredo Simon doesn't seize the opportunity to close, Uehara could be next in line. Or maybe the Orioles will just use a committee until Randy Myers decides to come out of retirement. Also, I wanted to mention that The Right Side Foundation hosted its first "Fun for 21" event of 2010 yesterday. The nonprofit organization, created last May by Nick and Christina Markakis, invited a group from the Casey Cares Foundation to the Maryland Science Center. The kids were provided a day-long pass to tour the Maryland Science Center, view the IMAX film "Forces of Nature" and eat lunch with Nick and Christina. Nick took photos with the kids and signed autographs, and the Markakis' donated their suite at Camden Yards to Casey Cares for last night's game, which the organization used to host families within their network. "We are so thankful to Nick and Christina for providing an escape for these children, who are battling for their lives, at the Science Center," said Casey Baynes, founder and Executive Director of the Casey Cares foundation. "It was an amazing day without needle pricks and scans for some of the critically ill children in our programs, not to mention the once in a lifetime opportunity for them to see a movie with their favorite Orioles player." Baynes founded Casey Cares in 2000 to fill a void in services available for critically ill children. Sort of puts things in perspective, doesn't it? Three more hours and I'll be posting the lineups for tonight's game. I'll make the bold assumption that Lou Montanez starts in left field and bats first against CC Sabathia, with Adam Jones moving down the order. Does Rhyne Hughes make his fourth consecutive start, or does Nolan Reimold serve as the designated hitter while Garrett Atkins starts at first base?
