Updating Reimold's first base experiment

The Orioles intended to use Nolan Reimold's demotion to Triple-A Norfolk as an opportunity for him to grow comfortable at first base. They wanted him to get hot at the plate and acclimated to a new position - baseball's version of multi-tasking - so they could occasionally quiet his barking Achilles by removing him from the outfield. Reimold has made three starts at first base, none since May 30 against Pawtucket. He's been playing left field (including the last five games) or serving as the Tides' designated hitter. Is the experiment over? Not yet, according to John Stockstill, the Orioles' director of player development. It's just been put on hold so Reimold can concentrate on reaching a certain "comfort level" offensively. Reimold is batting .173 with 1 double, three homers, seven RBIs and a .535 OPS in 23 games since being optioned to Norfolk. He has six walks and 15 strikeouts in 81 at-bats. Reimold had recorded a hit in five straight games and seven of nine before going 0-for-3 last night. "We want him to be as comfortable as he can be at the plate," Stockstill said. "He'll play (first) again, maybe once or twice a week, once he gets more focused on his offense." Reimold has a lot on his mind these days after the birth of his first child. By taking him off first base for a while, the Orioles are trying to clear his plate a little, along with his head. Not that his game crumbles at first base. He's 3-for-10 with two homers, four RBIs, a walk and three runs scored in those three starts. He's batting .174 as a left fielder and .120 as the designated hitter.
