Wang activated, Brown back after strong season at Syracuse

The Nationals have officially activated Chien-Ming Wang from the 15-day disabled list, giving manager Davey Johnson yet another option in relief. Wang has been around the Nats the last couple days after making his final rehab start Sept. 1 for Double-A Harrisburg. Realistically, the veteran righty doesn't stand much chance of pitching in meaningful situations, but he could be called on to eat innings at some point. Wang is 2-3 with a 7.61 ERA in seven games (four starts) with the Nats this season. The 32-year-old went 4-6 with a 5.51 ERA during 15 minor league rehab outings. The Nationals now have 33 players on their active roster. One other addition to the Nationals' clubhouse is outfielder Corey Brown, who was recalled today. Brown stayed with Triple-A Syracuse through the end of their season, then joined the Nats this afternoon. This is Brown's third stint with the Nationals this season, but his first time getting a chance to suit up for a game at Nats Park. He's gone 3-for-16 with a double, a home run and two RBIs in nine major league games this year. "It's a great feeling to be called up and this year I definitely feel like I deserve it a lot more than last year," Brown said. "Last year was a little more of a struggle, where this year I was able to bounce back." Acquired from the A's in the Josh Willingham trade in the winter of 2010, Brown scuffled with Syracuse last season, hitting .235 with 14 homers and 39 RBIs. His career looked like it might be hitting a bit of a plateau, but Brown found a groove this season, ranking among International League leaders in most offensive categories. Brown hit .285 with 25 homers and 71 RBIs at Syracuse. "Obviously, I've said previously that last year I put more pressure on myself just being part of a trade and whatnot," Brown said. "Unfortunately, it turned out to not be the best season, where this year, I tried to come in with a clear mind and kind of put last year behind me, I guess you could say. It turned out to be probably the best season of my professional career. "I'm just trying to build from that and not feel like I have to start over because I'm back up here. Kind of just build off that. Hopefully I can still have my calm nerves being up here. That's obviously the tough part, being able to relax when you're playing in front of this many fans. Hopefully I can do that."
