Wiseman continues hot streak as Double-A Harrisburg keeps rolling

Right fielder Rhett Wiseman is continuing his amazing run for Double-A Harrisburg. If Juan Soto is out more than 10 days with back spasms, the Nationals might consider finding a way to elevate the former Vanderbilt star.

Nationals-bag-bat-dugout-sidebar.jpgThe 24-year-old Wiseman has hit in seven straight games. He is slashing .333/.383/.729 with eight doubles, 10 homers and 24 RBIs. The 10 homers leads the Eastern League by three over Chris Gittens of Trenton and Hunter Owen of Altoona. Wiseman's eight doubles are tied for seventh in the league. His .729 slugging percentage is also the best in the Eastern League. His OPS is 1.112.

Wiseman bats left-handed and throws right-handed. He has had 11 hits in his last seven games, with two homers and four RBIs. He was a third-round selection by the Nats in 2015.

Last season with high Single-A Potomac, Wiseman hit .253 with 23 doubles, four triples, 21 homers and 63 RBIs. He had a late-season span of 22 total bases from Aug. 19-28, and was named Carolina Player of the Week on Aug. 26.

Wiseman was the 2012 Massachusetts Gatorade Player of the Year and played three seasons with Vanderbilt, winning the 2014 College World Series. MLB Draft Guide compared him to Johnny Damon, saying Wiseman is "a pull hitter with some loft, he has plus bat speed and good power potential. Wiseman ... is dangerous on the base paths."

Of course, Carter Kieboom is learning the jump from minor leagues to the majors has a steep learning curve, going just 5-for-35 with 16 strikeouts. But with power and speed, and the ability to play all three outfield spots, Wiseman could get a shot this season if he continues his hot hitting trend.

Harrisburg continues to enjoy its best start ever. Despite Sunday's rainout, the Senators are 23-6. In Saturday's 6-5 win over Trenton, Harrisburg rallied from at least a two-run deficit for the fifth time this season. Luis Sardiñas hit a two-run homer.
