The Orioles finally made it official.
Vladimir Guerrero has been activated from the disabled list after completing batting practice today at Rogers Centre. To make room for him on the 25-man roster, the Orioles optioned right-hander Mark Worrell to Triple-A Norfolk.
Guerrero is batting cleanup as the designated hitter. He had been on the disabled list since suffering a fractured bone in his right hand on July 10 in Boston.
Guerrero is hitting .279 with seven homers and 31 RBIs in 83 games. He went 1-for-4 Sunday in his only injury-rehab game at Double-A Bowie.
Worrell allowed eight runs and six hits in four appearances covering two innings, with two walks, three strikeouts and two homers. He had 12 saves with the Tides and was named to the International League All-Star team.
Also, left-hander Zach Britton will start the second game of Saturday's doubleheader in New York. Britton allowed eight runs (four earned) in the fifth inning last night for Bowie, but the Orioles were impressed with the way he pitched.
