Wright vs. Sanchez tonight at Camden Yards

BOSTON - Another road trip is in the books, with the Orioles going a combined 3-4 in Toronto and Boston. They've escaped hotel life again, but not their division.

The Blue Jays are back after taking three of four games at Rogers Centre. This isn't the suggested method for lowering a rotation's ERA, though Tyler Wilson let some air leak out last night.

(Not a euphemism. Still talking about the staff ERA.)

Mike Wright gets another shot at them after allowing four runs and six hits in five innings Saturday. He also walked five batters, a disappointing encore to his "reprieve" start against the Royals.

Wright-Delivers-White-Sidebar.jpgWright is 0-3 with a 7.13 ERA and 2.208 WHIP in five career games (four) starts against the Blue Jays spanning 17 2/3 innings. He's allowed 14 runs and 24 hits, walked 15 and struck out 12. However, he held them to three runs over six innings on April 19, so it can be done.

The current group is batting .350 (21-for-60) against him. Edwin Encarnacion is 3-for-7 with two doubles, Jose Bautista is 3-for-6 with a double and home run, Kevin Pillar is 3-for-7 and Ryan Goins is 4-for-6 with a double and triple, and Justin Smoak is 3-for-8 with two doubles.

Toronto right-hander Aaron Sanchez allowed four home runs over his first 12 starts. The Orioles hit four off him in five innings Sunday afternoon at Rogers Centre.

Baseball is a funny game.

Sanchez permitted six runs and 10 hits, the home runs coming from Pedro Alvarez, Adam Jones, Chris Davis and Matt Wieters, but the Blue Jays held on for a 10-9 win. He's 6-1 with a 3.38 ERA and 10 quality starts in 13 outings this season.

Sanchez is 2-1 with a 4.79 ERA in six home starts and 4-0 with a 2.36 ERA in seven road starts.

Lifetime against the Orioles, Sanchez has gone 2-2 with a 6.23 ERA and 1.923 WHIP in nine appearances (four starts) over 26 innings. He's allowed 18 runs and 29 hits, with 21 walks and 19 strikeouts. He's 0-2 with a 6.55 ERA in four games (two starts) at Camden Yards.

The current Orioles are batting .304 (17-for-56) against him. Davis is 6-for-10 with a double and three home runs, Jonathan Schoop is 3-for-6 and Jones is 1-for-11 with a home run.

Schoop is batting .368 (7-for-19) with four RBIs in his last five games.

Joey Rickard is batting .316 (24-for-76) against the American League East, including a .438 average (7-for-16) in his last five games.

The Blue Jays have won three in a row and trail the Orioles by two games.
