Ryan Zimmerman crushed a solo homer off of Marlins starter Adam Conley to lead off the second inning. His 25th homer of the season was also his 906th career RBI, which sets the all-time Nats/Expos franchise record.
The previous record was held by former Expos third baseman Tim Wallach, who is currently the Marlins bench coach.
Howie Kendrick and Wilmer Difo added back-to-back singles with two outs in the inning. But Nats starter Gio Gonzalez struck out.
Gonzalez has allowed three hits and even hit Giancarlo Stanton with a pitch in the third, but has kept the Marlins off the board.
Mid-third, the Nats lead the Marlins 1-0.
Update: Brian Goodwin doubled to lead off the bottom of the third. After Adrian Sanchez sacrificed bunted Goodwin to third, Bryce Harper laced a single to left field to add another run. Zimmerman later dropped in an RBI double to center field.
After three innings, the Nats now lead 3-0.
Update II: In the fourth, the Marlins mounted a rally to get on the board. J.T. Realmuto led off with a single. With one out, Tyler Moore singled, his second base hit on the night. Ichiro Suzuki singled to score Derek Dietrich.
After four innings, the Nats lead is 3-1.
Update III: In the fifth, Harper smacked a single with one out. he went to second on a wild pitch. Zimmerman's single scored Harper. After a Matt Wieters walk, Kendrick delivered a RBI double.
Through five innings, the Nats lead 5-1 over the Marlins.
Update IV: The Marlins bullpen fell apart in the sixth, surrendering four walks, one intentional, a hit-by-pitch, a single and a Harper sacrifice-fly RBI. The only hit of the inning came with the bases loaded off the bat of Kendrick, who drove the ball into left field to score two runs.
Pitchers Hunter Cervenka and Javy Guerra allowed the three runs on just one hit.
After six innings, the Nats lead 8-1.
Update V: What a night for Zimmerman. He tops off the night with a two-run shot in the seventh, his second of the game and 26th on the season. He is 4-for-4 with a double, two homers, five runs, five RBIs and two curtain calls on the night. The Nats lead 10-1 after seven inning.
Gonzalez finished seven frames, scattering seven hits and allowing one run with no walks and six strikeouts. He fired 103 pitches, 69 for strikes.
Update VI: Matt Grace allowed a hit-by-pitch and single in ninth but retired the side without allowing a run.
