Felix Pie took batting practice and shagged fly balls at Double-A Bowie before retreating indoors because of the rain. He'll officially join the Baysox for tonight's game against Erie.
Pie's injury rehab assignment began with the Gulf Coast League team and continued at Single-A Frederick. He's 6-for-20 with two RBIs, two walks and four runs scored.
Once he's done with the Baysox, he could be activated from the disabled list this weekend.
Pie played left field on Sunday and will continue...
Nolan Reimold hit his fourth home run tonight for Triple-A Norfolk, which is trailing Louisville, 7-2, in the ninth inning. Reimold started at first base, where he's seeing regular action.
Robert Andino, starting at shortstop, is 1-for-3 with a double and his 15th error.
Ryan Adams hit a three-run homer in Double-A Bowie's 10-9 win over Erie.
Steve Johnson didn't get the decision after allowing eight runs in 4 2/3 innings. He walked four, struck out six and surrendered two home...
After visiting Cooperstown, NY for the first time last weekend, I give you this picture for this week's Where at Nats Park.
First, identify where this Hall of Famer is honored at Nationals Park.
For bonus points --
Tell me something interesting about his career.
And take a photograph of this at Nationals Park and post it onto MASN's Facebook page.
Good luck!
Answer:
On the concourse between right field and first base. Nice work, guys. One more week until we name the 1st half winner!
Nationals pitcher Jordan Zimmermann continues to rehab with no setbacks in Florida and told me today he is scheduled to pitch for the Potomac Nationals against the Wilmington Blue Rocks, July 3 at Pfitzner Stadium in Woodbridge.
Zimmermann threw another simulated game today in Florida that went very well, tossing three innings and 50 pitches. "My velocity on my fastball was very good, I think it came in at 94 miles per hour."
Zimmermann is absolutely thrilled he will finally be able to...
Michael Gonzalez's fastball was clocked again at 90-91 mph yesterday, according to a team official, during his start at Aberdeen. Gonzalez allowed two hits, including a two-run homer, in one inning against Brooklyn.
Most pitching staffs on All-Star teams are comprised of starters and closers. You also might find the random set-up guy.
Relievers like Jason Berken largely go ignored.
Berken has the numbers to warrant strong consideration, but not the role.
He was a long man who became a...
Roster move in the minors: Righty Pat Egan, who has had a great year for Double-A Bowie, today moved up to Norfolk to join the Tides roster.
The 25-year-old Egan is 6-1, 2.12 with five saves. Over 46 2/3 innings, he has allowed 29 hits with seven walks to 25 strikeouts. Eastern League batters have hit just .177 vs. Egan. He was drafted in round 36 in 2006 out of Quinnipiac University.
Meanwhile, it has been a trying season for Baltimore native Brandon Erbe.
The right-hander remains...
O's hitting coach Terry Crowley gave a short, but honest answer to the question.
I asked him if he thought Nick Markakis' comments about players needing a better approach at the plate had anything to do with the improved O's offense in recent games.
"Um, probably not," Crowley said.
So what is the difference with the offense in the past week?
"I think they all basically look the same to me. We always have tried to practice patience on balls that are not ones we want to swing at and...
Meet Matthew Kaminski, organist for the Atlanta Braves at Turner Field.
Kaminski began playing the organ when he was five and eventually studied music at the University of Arizona and Georgia State University under the tutelage of some of the world's finest musicians.
But Kaminski is also a baseball fan. Born in Chicago, Kaminski recalls Harry Caray's 7th inning stretch as the highlight of the games he attended as a child.
When the Braves offered him the organist position last season,...
I'll give Karl Ravech and ESPN's Baseball Tonight crew credit for not ignoring the elephants in the room.
Two of the network's studio analysts, Bobby Valentine and Buck Showalter, have recently interviewed for managerial jobs. Ravech talked to them separately on the air before last night's game between the Yankees and Dodgers.
Valentine mentioned how the Marlins are going through "the process." It sounds like he's still interested in the job - and still the favorite. Showalter...
Nationals pitcher Stephen Strasburg makes his fifth start of his career tonight in Atlanta before another nationally televised audience.
Strasburg has been close to unstoppable in his first four outings, going 2-1 with a 1.78 ERA, and setting a major league record with 41 strikeouts.
It seems that almost every pitcher he has faced in his first 20 days has brought their "A" game and you would expect nothing less than the same from veteran Tim Hudson.
This will also be a chance for the...
