So the Orioles have now won four series in a row for the first time since August 3-15, 2004. Overall, they have won eight of their last ten and 12 of the last 17 games. They are 6-1 in their last seven games vs. the AL East. There are so many positive individual and team stats right now, it is even hard for a reporter like yours truly who enjoys keeping up with stats and trends. But, hey, I'll work at it. Then there is this note. The Orioles have now played 40 games under Buck Showalter...

Buck Showalter says players don't get stronger this time of year, some just hold up better than others. Jake Arrieta seems to be one of those players. Even though he is now 22 innings over his 2009 total, Arrieta is thriving and tonight pitched six shutout innings in the O's 11-3 romp over Toronto. He is now 6-6, 4.66 in 18 starts and is 2-0, 2.60 over his past three starts. This was his first start as a Major Leaguer where he did not allow a run. Jake Arrieta discusses his outing with...

Jake Arrieta has accumulated 173 1/3 innings this year, including his Triple-A starts. His previous high was 150 2/3. Did Arrieta make his final start tonight? "Ask me tomorrow," manager Buck Showalter said. "It's possibly my last one, it's possibly yours. "He's at 176-ish right now, and 180-ish is probably the limit you take him. He's about 20-plus over, so that's a real quality question. If he hears something about that, he'll hear it from me first. Ask me tomorrow." Will...

The Potomac Nationals got on the board in the Carolina League championship series with a comeback 5-3 victory in Game 2 at Winston-Salem over the Dash. The P-Nats made a pair of comebacks, down 1-0 in the fourth and 3-2 in the eighth. Trailing by 1, the P-Nats scored three times in the eighth and then the bullpen got six outs to win the contest. Derek Norris' RBI blooper single to right plated Francisco Soriano to tie the game at 3. Bill Rhinehart's sac fly scored Dan Lyons in the...

The Orioles used a big inning and a big pitching performance to post another win over Toronto on Tuesday night. Jake Arrieta pitched six scoreless innings and the O's added to a 3-0 lead with a six-run 7th in an 11-3 romp over the Jays. The Orioles have now won four series in a row for the first time since August 3-15, 2004. The Orioles trusted Pedro Viola with a nine-run lead with a runner on first base and two outs in the eighth inning. That must make him feel pretty good. Making his Orioles' debut, Viola walked Lyle Overbay on a full count and served up a three-run homer to Aaron Hill. A fan sitting in the left field seats threw the ball back onto the field. Nobody retrieved it for Viola. The home run came on a 92 mph fastball. Viola dug into his bag of tricks and struck out Adam Lind on an 80 mph...

Did the Rays really hang seven runs on the Yankees in the bottom of the fifth to wipe out a 6-0 deficit? I mentioned Jake Arrieta's improved control in my last entry. He's walked two and struck out 13 in his last three starts. That's critical to his development. Arrieta still needs to improve his tempo, but there's a lot to like about him, including the fact that he's gone six or more innings in six of his last eight starts. Which No. 9 hitting third baseman with three strikeouts is...

The Orioles signed Michael Gonzalez to a two-year contract this offseason. He got off to a shaky start with his new team because he was injured. Since his return from the disabled list, Michael has had a change in his role. He was signed to be a closer, but has been in more of a set up role recently. He doesn't think he's at the point in his career where he needs to be a left-handed specialist and likes pitching a full inning. For the entire interview, watch the video below.

Jake Fox is the O's super utility player, but has been rarely used since being acquired from the Oakland Athletics. Jim asked Jake about staying sharp in his part-time role and how he's adjusted to his role. Jake thinks his versatility is beneficial to the Orioles. For more of Jake's thoughts, watch the video below.

The Orioles have a chance to win their fourth straight series. When's the last time that happened? I'm really asking. I don't feel like looking it up. Wouldn't even know where to start. I'm sure that information will become available shortly. It requires going through the day-by-days, working backward, until you find four in a row. Nothing to it. First, the Orioles need to hang onto this 3-0 lead. Update: The Orioles haven't won four straight series since Aug. 3-15, 2004. They swept...
