Heston Kjerstad is out of today’s lineup after taking a 99.5 mph fastball off his right elbow yesterday and leaving the game. X-rays were negative.
Kjerstad gets an extra day to rest Monday before the Orioles begin their series in D.C.
Cedric Mullins is leading off, followed again by Gunnar Henderson and Adley Rutschman. Ryan O’Hearn is in right field.
Ramón Laureano, who homered twice yesterday off the bench, is in left field.
Jordan Westburg, who homered yesterday to snap an 0-for-30 stretch, is the designated hitter.
Orioles pitchers walked nine batters yesterday in a 9-5 win.
“It’s never easy when you’re walking nine,” said manager Brandon Hyde. “Our bullpen’s had a pretty heavy load so far. When we’re getting four-inning starts, it’s gonna take its toll. Come on, Charlie Morton, need you. That’s the bottom line. We need to give some of these guys a break.”
The bullpen finished yesterday’s game with a 2.97 ERA that led the American League and ranked fourth in the majors.
Morton is 0-4 with an 8.84 ERA and 1.909 in four starts and 18 1/3 innings. He’s made 22 career starts against the Reds and posted a 4.01 ERA and 1.289 WHIP.
Jake Fraley is 1-for-9 against Morton. Elly De La Cruz is 0-for-5 with three strikeouts.
Spencer Steer is 3-for-6, Austin Hays is 2-for-4 and Matt McLain is 2-for-3 with two doubles.
The Reds were supposed to start right-hander Nick Lodolo, but he went on the paternity list. They switched to right-hander Carson Spiers, but he worked four innings in relief yesterday and allowed four runs and five hits.
The choice is left-hander Brent Suter, whose made six relief appearances and allowed two runs in 6 2/3 innings. He hasn’t gone more than two innings in a game.
Laureano is 2-for-2 with a double against him.
Former Oriole Austin Wynns is catching. Austin Hays is the designated hitter.
