Orioles and Tigers lineups to close out series, injury updates

DETROIT – The Orioles will try to avoid a three-game sweep today with Dean Kremer on the mound and Cy Young Award winner Tarik Skubel providing the opposition.

It doesn’t get any easier.

Wins might come more regularly if the Orioles can improve their production with runners in scoring position. The Orioles are 6-for-51 with RISP and have left 47 on base since Easter.

The Orioles rank 25th in the majors with a .217 average and 23rd in OPS at .636 with RISP.

The lineup is missing Adley Rutschman, Jordan Westburg and Cedric Mullins. Rutschman was hit on the right hand in Game 2 while blocking a pitch and has some soreness and swelling. Westburg has a sore hamstring that began bothering him yesterday. Mullins has been ill the past few days and played 18 innings yesterday.

All three players could come off the bench later.

Ramón Laureano is leading off and playing right field. Dylan Carlson is in center.

Gunnar Henderson is the designated hitter. Ramón Urías is the cleanup hitter and third baseman.

Jorge Mateo is the shortstop, with Jackson Holliday at second base.

Holliday is batting .300 against off-speed pitches in 2025, up from .196 last season, per STATS.

Kremer has posted a 6.84 ERA and 1.600 WHIP in five starts, and his 36 hits in 25 innings are second-most in the American League.

Kremer has started only once against the Tigers in his career and he allowed five runs and 11 hits in five innings at Comerica Park in 2023.

Leftover from Game 2 last night: Charlie Morton is only the second pitcher in Orioles history and the 30th in the majors to begin a season losing each of his first six appearances.

Morton hadn’t allowed an earned run to the Tigers in the last 23 2/3 innings before Riley Greene’s three-run shot.

Skubal has a 2.83 ERA and 1.116 WHIP in five starts. He’s surrendered three home runs, walked five batters and struck out 29 in 28 2/3 innings.

The Orioles have faced Skubal three times in his career and scored four runs in 17 2/3 innings. Laureano is 2-for-12 against him.
