Anthony Rendon will get the day off in the series opener against the Rockies at Nationals Park. Danny Espinosa will start at second base for the Nationals after having started for Ian Desmond at shortstop two days ago.
In just 30 games with the Nats this season, Rendon is hitting .279 after going 1-for-3 with two walks and a run scored in last night's win. Espinosa is batting .246 on the season and is hitless in his last three appearances. But Espinosa is hitting .267 with nine home runs and 21 RBIs in the 67 games he's played at second.
Espinosa is 1-for-3 (.333) with a double in his career against Rockies lefty starter Jorge De La Rosa, while Rendon is only 1-for-9 (.111) with a double against the southpaw.
Desmond is 4-for-9 (.444) with a double, two walks and two RBIs against De La Rosa. Jayon Werth is 4-for-12 (.333) with a home run, three RBIs and two walks. Ryan Zimmerman is 4-for-14 (.286) with two doubles, a homer, four RBIs and four walks.
Jordan Zimmermann gets the start for the Nationals and is 5-0 with a 2.20 ERA in eight career starts against Colorado.
