Game 28 lineups: Nats vs. Phillies

The Nationals need a good start tonight from Patrick Corbin. It's that simple. With their own lineup ailing and ace Aaron Nola on the mound for the Phillies, it's probably too much to count on a big night at the plate.

So it's up to Corbin to provide quality innings, hold the Philly lineup down and allow Davey Martinez to use only a couple of his best relievers late instead of asking them to provide the kind of length that has been required more often than not this season. The left-hander was excellent against the Phillies last season, going 2-0 with a 2.88 ERA in four starts.

Nola (3.10 ERA, 0.897 WHIP) has been excellent so far this season, but the Nats actually handled him well in 2019. In four starts, he gave up 17 runs in 21 innings. Their current lineup, however, bears little resemblance to last year's lineup. And the lineup looks even more different tonight after the club optioned struggling rookie Carter Kieboom to their alternate training site in Fredericksburg and activated reliever Sean Doolittle off the injured list.

Howie-Kendrick-Home-Run-Swing-White-Sidebar.jpgAsdrúbal Cabrera becomes the everyday third baseman and will bat third tonight, ahead of Juan Soto. Howie Kendrick is DHing, and 20-year-old Luis García continues to get to play at second base.
