And for the first time in 2016 (exhibition games excluded), hello from Nationals Park! The home opener has arrived at last, though this could end up being a long day of waiting around for a game that may or may not be played. I don't know any more than all of you do, but my trusty weather app is showing dry skies until about 6 p.m. So maybe we'll be alright after all.
Once they do play, it's Tanner Roark on the mound for the Nationals against the fearsome Giancarlo Stanton and the rest of the Marlins. This turned out to be a nice honor for Roark, who one year after getting shuffled off to the bullpen now gets to start the home opener before what I presume will be an appreciative crowd. (How appreciative the crowd is of Jonathan Papelbon remains to be seen.)
Among the planned pregame festivities: The cast of "Jersey Boys" will sing the national anthem at 3:47 p.m., Bryce Harper will be presented his NL MVP award at 3:50 p.m., and Prince William County police officers Jesse Hempen and David McKeown will throw out the ceremonial first pitches at 3:54 p.m. So get here early.
We'll have all sorts of coverage here throughout the day, so please be sure to refresh your homepage regularly. Enjoy the day, everyone!
