Who's ready for some more baseball? With the opener of today's doubleheader in the books, the Nationals and Braves will get right back at it with another seven-inning game on South Capitol Street.
And because of the events of Game 1, in which Erick Fedde lasted only 1 2/3 innings, the Nats really could use a quality (and long) start from Stephen Strasburg. The veteran right-hander built his arm up as much as needed during spring training, even with that brief calf injury scare in mid-March. So he should be good for 100 pitches today, and Davey Martinez may need it from him.
Martinez elected not to go with Ryan Zimmerman and Jonathan Lucroy in his nightcap lineup after suggesting earlier today he might be willing to start both veterans in both ends of the doubleheader. Probably the wise decision to avoid risk of injury to both players by having them play in three games in 24 hours.
