ANAHEIM, Calif. - The Nationals have made only two previous trips to Angel Stadium in their history, and boy were they eventful. In 2005, Frank Robinson (with some help from Jose Guillen) fought Mike Scioscia. In 2011, Davey Johnson returned to a big league dugout for the first time in a decade. Now, in 2017, Sean Doolittle and Ryan Madson officially join the Nats, and Edwin Jackson officially rejoins the Nats after five years away.
The club announced its flurry of roster moves this afternoon. The aforementioned three pitchers are now all on the active roster. Gone are Trevor Gott and Austin Adams (optioned to Triple-A Syracuse) and Jacob Turner (designated for assignment for the second time this month).
Jackson makes his first start for the Nationals since 2012. In the five years since, he has pitched for five different major league clubs and made five starts for Syracuse (allowing just one run in 20 1/3 innings) to earn a ticket back to D.C. What can reasonably be expected of him tonight? Your guess is as good as mine.
With two games in the American League park, Adam Lind gets a chance to start as designated hitter. Wilmer Difo is tonight's shortstop and No. 2 hitter, while Chris Heisey is tonight's left fielder and No. 9 hitter.
