Jordan off to rough start (Zimmerman removed, Nats lose 6-3)

The Upton brothers have struck again. Taylor Jordan gave up an early 1-0 Nats lead in the first inning after allowing a solo homer to Braves outfielder B.J. Upton. Jordan then allowed a single to Freddie Freeman. One out later, Justin Upton doubled home Freeman to give the Braves a 2-1 lead. Dan Uggla and Evan Gattis then followed with doubles of their own. The Braves lead 4-1 after one inning. The game got off to a promising start for the Nats as second baseman Anthony Rendon led off the game with a homer. It might be early, but Rendon has owned Braves starter Alex Wood in his career. Coming in to tonight's game, the Nationals second baseman was 5-for-7 lifetime against Wood. He is now 6-for-8 after hitting a leadoff homer. Update: Through four innings, Jordan has thrown 78 pitches, allowing seven hits while walking two. Rendon and Kevin Frandsen have two hits apiece for the Nationals. Update II: Third baseman Ryan Zimmerman was removed prior to the bottom of the fifth inning. In the top of the frame, Zimmerman was picked off at second base. MASN replays showed Zimmerman immediately grabbing and looking at his right thumb. Rendon shifted from second to third, while Danny Espinosa takes over at second. More to come. Update III: The Nats got one run back thanks to a wild pitch from Anthony Varvaro in the sixth inning. The Braves lead 5-2. Jordan's night is done after pitching five innings. He allowed five earned runs, 10 hits, walked two and struck out five. The right-hander was able to limit the Braves to five runs on a night when the Nats committed two errors. Blake Treinen has replaced Jordan. He is making his major league debut. Update IV: The Nats added another run in the eighth. Ian Desmond got things started in the inning with a ground-rule double. Two outs later, cacther Sandy Leon singled home Desmond to cut the Braves' lead to 5-3. Jayson Werth, who was held out of the starting lineup with a cramp in his groin, pinch-hit for Treinen. Treinen went two innings in his major league debut. He allowed no runs, two hits, and struck out one. Not a bad way to start your major league career. Craig Stammen relieved Treinen. Stammen allowed a solo blast to Freeman. The Nats dropped their fourth game of the season to the Braves, losing 6-3.
