Nationals commentator Holliday honored by alma mater

We hear his voice before and after every Nationals game. He's previewing the day's matchup and only hours later recapping another night in baseball. For Nationals fans, baseball season revolves around the sight and sounds of broadcaster Johnny Holliday. Holliday, along with analyst Ray Knight, have been covering the Nationals for quite some time, a mere tip of the iceberg for Holliday, whose radio and television career has stretched more than 40 years. Over those many decades, Holliday has received numerous accolades, both locally and nationally. Today, the 74-year-old can add one more to his resume. Holliday is this year's recipient of Golden Pioneer Award. OK, so it's not as well known as an Oscar, but down in Miami, Fla., this honor is nothing to sneeze at. At Holliday's alma mater, North Miami Senior High School, the Golden Pioneer Award is given annually to alumni who have made a positive and lasting impact, both in their lives and in the lives of others. Holliday certainly fits that mold, as he becomes the latest recipient of the Pioneers' annual award. This is just one award in a career of many, and as long as he's in the booth for the Nationals, there's a good chance this won't be his last.
