Nationals recall right-hander Gott, option infielder Difo to Triple-A

The Washington Nationals recalled right-handed pitcher Trevor Gott from Triple-A Syracuse on Monday and optioned infielder Wilmer Difo to Syracuse. Nationals President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Mike Rizzo made the announcement. Gott, 24, joins the Nationals for his first Major League assignment of the season. The hard-throwing right-hander has posted a 2-0 record and a 3.30 ERA in 30.0 innings (23 games) of work with Triple-A Syracuse this season. Gott has secured three saves for the Chiefs and posted a 4.67 strikeout-to-walk ratio. This season with Syracuse, Gott has been a reliable member of the Chiefs' bullpen - posting a scoreless outing in 17 of his 23 appearances and allowing more than one earned run on only three occasions all year. The 6-foot, 180-pound right-hander has collected all three of his saves since June 1, and since the start of May he has posted a 2.37 ERA (5 ER/19.0 IP) while striking out 20. Difo, 25, made Washington's Opening Day roster for the first time in his career. The versatile infielder has hit .184 (16-for-87) with two doubles, one triple, one home run and five RBI. Difo has appeared at shortstop, second base, third base, and left field this season for Washington.
