Nats suffer costly 6-4 loss to Marlins

Dee Gordon singled to center to start tonight's game. Two batters later, Martin Prado smacked a hanging slider from Tanner Roark over the wall in left-center for a two-run homer.

roark-red-pitching-short-hair-sidebar.jpgUpdate: Jayson Werth drew a leadoff walk in the second. After Clint Robinson grounded out, Ian Desmond hit a missile into the Marlins bullpen. The two-run homer was Desmond's 18th of the season, but first in his his last 18 games.

Update II: Miguel Rojas doubled to start the fifth. After advancing to third on right-hander Jarred Cosart's sacrifice bunt, Rojas then scored on Dee Gordon's sacrifice fly to left.

Christian Yelich and Prado followed with back-to-back singles, bringing Justin Bour to the plate. On a 2-2 count, Bour mashed Roark's 94 mph heater into the seats in right for a three-run homer. It was Bour's fourth homer against the Nationals this season.

Roark left after five innings, allowing six runs on eight hits with no walks and four strikeouts. He threw 80 pitches.

Update III: Desmond delivered a two-out two-run single with the bases loaded in the eighth. After Wilson Ramos walked, Marlins closer A.J. Ramos whiffed Michael A. Taylor to end the threat.

Update IV: The Marlins beat the Nationals 6-4.
