Inside the Marlins:

Derek Jeter's ballclub will travel to the nation's capital Monday night for its final series of the year against the Nationals and its second-to-last series of the season overall. In Jeter's first year as owner, the Marlins finished their home schedule with the lowest total attendance of any team in the majors, averaging just 10,014 fans per game. A 62-93 record and last place in the National League East didn't give the faithful much to cheer about, but the Marlins come into D.C. winners of three straight and five of seven games after dropping five in a row.

Lewis Brinson (.203, 11 homers) notched his 40th RBI of the season in the Marlins' 4-0 win over Cincinnati on Sunday. Rookie catcher Chad Wallach, filling in for J.T. Realmuto, hit his first major league homer in Sunday's home finale, going went 3-for-4 on the afternoon. Realmuto went 1-for-4 with a double on Saturday in the Marlins' 5-1 victory over the Reds, and is easily the team's most dependable player, with a .284 average, 21 homers and 73 RBIs. Shortstop JT Riddle went 2-for-5 on Sunday in the Marlins' series finale against the Reds.

In his last start against the Nationals on Sept. 18, right-hander Sandy Alcantara only lasted four innings having given up three earned runs on six walks and six hits. Right-hander Jeff Brigham fell to 0-3 on the season with his latest loss on Thursday. The righty was pulled after just five innings after allowing two runs on three hits and four walks with just five strikeouts the club's loss to the Reds. Veteran left-hander Wei-Yin Chen struck out eight batters in his last start against Cincinnati on Sept. 21.

Closer Kyle Barraclough retired two batters in the 10th inning on Friday in the Marlins' 1-0 extra-inning victory over the Reds.
