#TBT to "Nationals Classics": Strasburg extends scoreless streak on Clinchmas

With the conclusion of the World Series, baseball's offseason is officially underway.

We know Nationals fans will be craving baseball while waiting 3 1/2 months until pitchers and catchers report to West Palm Beach in February, so we're bringing back our Throwback Thursday (#TBT) posts and combining them with our "Nationals Classics" series, which will air memorable moments in Nats history on MASN throughout the offseason.

Each week, we will have a #TBT moment from the 2017 season to look back on, with a highlight video embeded and a MASNsports.com story linked from that game, while also letting you know when you can watch the game in its entirety on MASN, along with a few other "Nationals Classics" to fill your baseball needs over the winter!

Without further ado, let's get started with the offseason's first #TBT moment from this past season ...

Stephen Strasburg had the best season of his career in 2017, as he established himself as one of the most dominant starting pitchers in all of baseball. Not only did he tie his career-best record of 15-4 while his 2.52 ERA was the fourth-best in the major leagues, but he set also set a new franchise record with 35 consecutive scoreless innings after returning from a brief disabled list stint late in the season.

Strasburg broke the franchise record with his seventh shutout inning and 10th punchout of the day in a 3-2 win over the Phillies on Sept. 10. Oh, yeah, did I mention this game was the same day the Nats clinched their fourth National League East division title in six years?

Thursday, Nov. 2, 12:30 p.m. - There's a reason he's called "Mr. Walk-off" ... Ryan Zimmerman has been known to come up in the clutch throughout his career. But there's no bigger way than hitting a walk-off grand slam to cap off a six-run ninth inning and beat a division rival. Zimmerman did just that against the Phillies on Aug. 19, 2011.

Friday, Nov. 3, 9 a.m. - Everyone remembers Strasburg's major league debut with 14 strikeouts against the Pirates. But do you remember his second-career start? He struck out eight over 5 2/3 innings of two-hit ball in Cleveland on June 13, 2010 to earn back-to-back wins in the first two starts of his career.

Monday, Nov. 6, noon - The Nationals' arrival in Washington, D.C., marked the start of a new baseball era in our nation's capital. Relive the Nats' first home win - a 5-3 victory over the Diamondbacks on April 14, 2005 - at historic RFK Stadium.

Tuesday, Nov. 7, noon - Two days after the Nats' first home win, they completed a comeback victory over the D-backs with a six-run seventh inning to complete a three-game sweep in the first series in their new home. Second baseman Jose Vidro had three RBIs and first baseman Nick Johnson drove in two.

Wednesday, Nov. 8, noon - Zimmerman earned his walk-off reputation early in his career. As a rookie, the then-third baseman crushed a walk-off home run against the Yankees to complete a ninth-inning rally and series win on a beautiful Sunday afternoon in D.C. on June 18, 2006.
