Video: Harper is throwing his weight around

Bryce Harper is becoming one of social media's new stars. The 22-year-old has been piling up re-tweets and likes on his Twitter and Instagram accounts over the past few weeks with anything from pictures of him hanging with Michael Jordan and Derek Jeter at Super Bowl parties to crushing golf balls into outer space.

By the looks of his most recent Instagram post, it appears the Nationals outfielder is more than ready for spring training.

Harper also was widely recognized yesterday for paying tribute to the late Jerry Tarkanian. The Hall of Fame coach won a NCAA basketball championship at UNLV in 1990 with a team considered one of the best ever. Harper, a Las Vegas native, wore a classic jacket with the names of UNLV's championship starting five stitched into the back along with "The Shark," the nickname Tarkanian carried for decades.

Harper's Instagram picture shows him standing in front of a memorial fans created at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas where UNLV plays its games. He captioned the picture, " 'Legends Never Die.' Nobody will ever be better than Tark the 'Shark.' "
