Werth's 1,000th career hit is a doozy (Nats win 8-5)

Just one pitch after Bryce Harper's popped-up bunt turned into a game-tying safety squeeze, Jayson Werth reached the 1,000-hit mark in style. Werth lofted the first pitch of Zach Miner's outing just over the left field wall, giving the Nationals a 6-4 lead. The Nats right fielder got greeted warmly upon his return to the dugout, and the fans got in on the act, as well, requesting a curtain call. Werth obliged, bounding out of the dugout and giving the fans a wave. The fact that his 1,000th hit came against his former team and gave the Nats a lead had to feel pretty good for the 34-year-old. But the Nats weren't done there. Four batters later, Anthony Rendon ripped a bases-loaded, two-out single to left, giving the Nats a five-run inning and an 8-4 lead. This is a game the Nats had once trailed 4-0. They have now rattled off eight straight and have a commanding lead in the late innings. Every Nationals starting position player has either a hit or an RBI, as the Nats have taken advantage of an awful Phillies bullpen to blow this game open. Tanner Roark is now in line for his first major league win. Update: That'll do it. Rafael Soriano closed out an 8-5 Nationals win, evening the season series between the Nats and Phillies this year. This is the largest comeback victory of the season for the Nats, who took control of the game late, with their five-run seventh proving to be the difference. Soriano gets his 29th save of the season and Roark gets his first career win. Credit Taylor Jordan for bouncing back from a rough second inning to put up three scoreless frames and keep the Nats in the game, credit Roark for another strong outing in relief, and credit the bats for waking up late.
