A few notes before tonight's game

NEW YORK - Since July 29, 2012, the Orioles have the best winning percentage in baseball at .605 and are tied with the Athletics for the most wins with 89. The Orioles are 15-8 in their last 23 games against the Yankees after going 12-41 in the previous 53. They're 6-3 against them this season, but they lost two of three in the Bronx April 12-14. Since the start of 2012, the Orioles are 2-4 in extra innings against New York, including the playoffs, and 20-2 against the rest of baseball. The Orioles' starters in the first two games of this series, Miguel Gonzalez and Chris Tillman, have the second-most wins among American League teammates since last July 4. According to STATS, Detroit's Max Scherzer (22) and Justin Verlander (18) have 40 wins, while Gonzalez (15) and Tillman (19) are second with 34. The Cardinals' Adam Wainwright (19) and Lance Lynn (18) are second in the majors with 37. Per STATS: Chris Davis' 32 home runs through July 4 are tied for the seventh-most all-time, trailing Barry Bonds (39, 2001), Mark McGwire (37, 1998), Ken Griffey, Jr. (35, 1998), Luis Gonzalez (35, 2001), Sammy Sosa (33, 1998) and Reggie Jackson (33, 1969). Also from STATS: Davis' .722 slugging percentage is the fifth-highest in the American League prior to the All-Star break since 1933 (minimum 250 plate appearances). He trails Mark McGwire (1996, .796), Frank Thomas (1994, .795), Mickey Mantle (1956, .749) and Jimmie Foxx (1933, .744). Davis' 83 RBIs this season would have led 11 teams in Orioles history. He's two short of his team-leading total last season, which also marked his career high. Davis is 6-for-16 with two homers and seven RBIs lifetime against Yankees starter Ivan Nova. Nick Markakis is 10-for-25 with a home run. Matt Wieters is 9-for-21 with three homers and five RBIs. Manny Machado has the most hits on the road in the majors this season with 65. He's hit safely in 31 of his last 35 road games, batting .350 (55-for-157) with 17 doubles, three homers, 15 RBIs and 24 runs scored. Machado has hit in 23 of his last 26 road games, going 40-for-117 (.342) with 11 doubles, two homers, 11 RBIs and 17 runs scored. Machado has posted at least three hits in eight road games this year, the second-most in the majors behind Jed Lowrie (9). Machado leads the majors with 38 doubles, 12 more than anyone else, and is tied for the lead with 34 multi-hit games. He's second with 118 hits, one behind Miguel Cabrera.
