A few notes on 2016 Orioles schedule (updated)

NEW YORK - Major League Baseball will release the 2016 schedules later this week - possibly as early as this afternoon - and the Orioles will avoid another season opener at Tropicana Field.

The Rays will have to wait.

Update: The schedule will be released today at 1 p.m.

The Orioles will begin their season at home against the Twins, just as they did in 2012. Opening day is slated for April 4.

Adam Jones Opening Day Carpet.pngThe Orioles swept the Twins in 2012, with Jake Arrieta earning the win in the opener. Tommy Hunter and Jason Hammel were the winning pitchers in the next two games.

I've heard that the interleague portion of the 2016 schedule includes home series against the Padres, Rockies, Diamondbacks and Nationals, and trips to Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego and Washington, D.C.

Also, the Orioles will host the Red Sox on Memorial Day.

By starting their season at home, the Orioles figure to play Triple-A Norfolk in an exhibition game at Harbor Park after breaking camp. That's the usual arrangement when they're not on the road. Play the Tides, hold a workout at Camden Yards and set the opening day roster.
