A few words from Bergesen and Reimold

Pitcher Brad Bergesen is sporting a beard that actually looks good on him. Neatly trimmed. Doesn't look like he just staggered out of the woods after an eight-month hibernation. Bergesen said he'll prepare in spring training as if he's going to be a starter, though his role is undefined. "I've had a great winter with my son and just watching him develop and he's healthy, so it's just been flying by this offseason, but I've been preparing as usual," he said. "I switched things up a little bit, just talking with Brady (Anderson) and switching the program a little bit. I feel great and I'm just looking forward to getting to spring training and getting going again. "As of right now, I don't know exactly what their plans are for me heading into spring. I'm preparing myself to start and building up the arm strength for that. It really helped that they haven't given up on me on that part, and hopefully they'll give me a chance because I believe in myself. I want that chance again. I know what a big year it is for me to come into the spring, and the other arms, and I'm looking forward to the competition. "Last year wasn't a good year for me. There was a lot of inconsistency, so I'm preparing myself, putting that behind me and learning from my mistakes, and remembering the good times, too. But going in with 12 guys, I see myself in that mix and I'm looking forward to the competition. I think that's what every organization strives for, to load up the arms and let them go, and whoever wins the spot, that's who they're going to go with." Nolan Reimold wants the left field job, of course. "I want to play every day. I think that's everybody's goal," he said. "You do what you've got to do in the offseason to prepare to achieve your goal." What about the possibility of serving as the designated hitter? "I'll do whatever the team asks," he said. "I think most guys like to play in the field and get to DH occasionally, but whatever's asked of me, I'll be happy to do it." Reimold is happy to hear that manager Buck Showalter wants him to win the left field job. "That's great to hear because that's what I want to do," Reimold said. "That's where I feel like I can contribute the most to the team." Reimold said he downloaded the final game on iTunes and has watched it a few times. He had the game-tying double against Jon Papelbon and scored the winning run on Robert Andino's single. "I didn't even know they had it on there. I don't know how I found out," he said. "It was a fun moment in the year and in my career. It was the highlight so far, and I enjoyed watching it and reliving the experience."
