Accardo reaches agreement; Gregg rumor

A team official confirmed this afternoon that the Orioles have reached agreement with former Blue Jays reliever Jeremy Accardo on a one-year deal worth $1.08 million. The Sun quotes Accardo's agent, Damon Lapa of All Bases Covered Sports Management (catchy name.) The deal is official pending a physical. The Blue Jays non-tendered Accardo, making him a free agent. He's eligible for arbitration again after 2011, so the Orioles could retain his rights for another season. Accardo registered 30 saves with Toronto in 2007, but has spent most of the ensuing years in the minors. He gives the Orioles another option at closer if Koji Uehara is injured. The Orioles want to add at least one more reliever. It could still be Kevin Gregg, but the club isn't on the verge of signing him, despite a published report that has stirred up plenty of fans. When asked if an announcement was forthcoming, the official replied, "Not that I'm aware of." And he would know. The Orioles have an offer on the table, but it doesn't appear that they've increased it or are ready to schedule a physical and give him a choice of uniform numbers. And Gregg doesn't appear to be in a big hurry to sign.
