Accardo with the great escape (updated)

So much for a rested bullpen. Manager Buck Showalter has used six relievers again tonight, as he did Monday night at Fenway Park. Jeremy Accardo's turn came up in the top of the 13th, which isn't exactly going with the hot hand. Accardo had allowed runs in five straight appearances and six of seven. He permitted five runs and 10 hits in 5 1/3 innings over those five games. And the Yankees pressured him tonight. Curtis Granderson and Mark Teixeira singled to open the 13th, putting runners on the corners. Accardo was allowed to pitch to Alex Rodriguez, and he got a called third strike that had Rodriguez going nose-to-nose with plate umpire Dan Bellino. Robinson Cano was walked intentionally to load the bases with one out. Chris Dickerson, who replaced Nick Swisher in right field, struck out swinging. Once again, Matt Wieters held on to a foul tip. I'm sure it didn't escape Showalter. With the bases still loaded and two outs, Brett Gardner grounded to second base. Piece of cake. The Orioles need another bullpen arm, so you have to wonder whether first baseman Derrek Lee will be told tomorrow that he's going on the disabled list. It's not like Troy Patton has anything better to do. Update: Accardo stranded a runner in the top of the 14th. Two scoreless for the struggling reliever. Nicely done. Michael Gonzalez is playing rock, paper, scissors with Rick Adair in the bullpen. Or maybe not. But he's the only reliever left. The last game at Camden Yards to last longer than this one?
