Allenson still in limbo

Former third base coach Gary Allenson still hasn't decided on his next move. He's got a standing offer to manage at Triple-A Norfolk, but obviously would prefer a major league job. Allenson has been a first base, third base and bullpen coach in the majors. He's managed in the minors and worked as a catching coordinator. He'll benefit whichever organization ends up with him. My guess: He'll be managing the Tides in 2011. I would have been fine with Allenson staying as third base coach on manager Buck Showalter's staff. He's gotten good reviews. But Juan Samuel can work with the infielders. Don Wakamatsu would be the catching instructor if he's hired as bench coach, which is expected to happen if he isn't managing next year. Double-A catcher Caleb Joseph is batting .444 with a double, home run, five RBIs, a .516 on-base percentage and a .593 slugging percentage in eight games for the Scottsdale Scorpions of the Arizona Fall League. Joseph has mainly been part of the Scorpions' taxi squad, so he can only play twice a week. You must check out this head shot of Joseph, who's quite a character. The Orioles are projected to sign Adam LaRoche if they can't get Paul Konerko. That's it for the Top 50. Kevin Millwood is projected to sign with the Padres, and the site has Koji Uehara going to the Mets. And finally, I mentioned yesterday that I was heading to Washington for the Breathe Deep DC 5K walk on the National Mall (it's not really a mall, by the way.) The event raised more than $266,000 and attracted over 1,400 walkers, making it the biggest lung cancer research fundraiser in the country. I strongly urge anyone who has the chance to participate next year, especially if you've lost a loved one or know someone who's fighting the disease.
