Another look at the first half

The Orioles will conduct a workout this evening at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Fla. Their season is inching closer to resumption.

Left-hander Donnie Hart may not make it until Friday morning. Either way, he's the latest roster move, the next reliever to spin the revolving door to the bullpen.

Mychal Givens is expected to be available on Friday rather than go on the paternity list. The All-Star break and a road series against the Rays worked in the Tampa native's favor.

Outfielder Hyun Soo Kim is expected to avoid a trip to the disabled list. Reliever Darren O'Day will make the trip to Tampa, but he's expected to avoid standing in front of his locker and providing another update until he's got real news.

Getting on a mound would be a significant step, followed by pitching in a simulated game and going on a short injury rehab assignment. Imagine the impact his return will have on the bullpen and potentially on the Orioles' season.

Manager Buck Showalter hasn't confirmed a starter for Sunday afternoon. We only know that Yovani Gallardo and Chris Tillman are starting the first two games and Kevin Gausman is opening the Yankees series Monday night in the Bronx.

Gausman owns a career 2.22 ERA in 13 games (seven starts) against the Yankees. He has a 4.80 ERA in 11 games (nine starts) versus the Rays.

The Orioles' public relations department cranked out its annual first-half summary, with the usual assists from Elias Sports Bureau and STATS, LLC. Here are a few nuggets to get you primed for the post-break action.

Showalter-Pensive-Dugout-Tampa-Sidebar.jpgThis year marks the eighth time in Orioles history that the team has had at least three winning streaks of seven or more games within the same season. It also happened in 1965, 1966, 1969, 1970, 1979, 1982 and 1993.

The 137 home runs before the All-Star break are the most in Orioles history, passing the 134 hit by the 1996 team.

The Orioles have scored 147 runs this season in the seventh inning or later to lead the American League and rank third in the majors. The Orioles also own a share of the major league lead with 43 home runs in the seventh inning or later, tied with the Cardinals and Nationals.

The Orioles have hit 74 home runs at home this season to lead the majors.

The Orioles finished the month of June with a 14-3 record at home. The 14 wins mark the most in one month by the Orioles since they went 15-3 at Memorial Stadium in June 1979.

Two Orioles have been ejected this season. Manny Machado was tossed on June 7 for charging the mound and throwing a punch at Royals pitcher Yordano Ventura. Who was the other?

Answer to follow. No fair looking it up if you forgot.

Machado ranks 10th in the majors with a .569 slugging percentage, second with 29 doubles and tied for 10th in the AL with 19 home runs. He's sixth in the AL with 109 hits this season.

Machado's .318 batting average ranks seventh in the AL. He ranks tied for third in the AL with 35 multi-hit games this season.

Mark Trumbo homered twice in the seventh inning of the April 15 game against the Rangers, becoming the first player in Orioles history to hit multiple home runs in a single inning. He also posted his fifth career game with at least five RBIs and his first since Sept. 15, 2014 while playing for the Diamondbacks.

Trumbo became the first player in Orioles history to hit five home runs within his first 10 games with the team.

Trumbo's 28 home runs before the All-Star break are tied with Nelson Cruz in 2014 for third in club history. Chris Davis hit 37 in 2013 and Brady Anderson hit 30 in 1996.

The Orioles have been outscored 63-46 in first inning. They're outscoring opponents 62-43 in the fifth, 69-41 in the seventh, 45-27 in the eighth and 29-19 in the ninth.

The Orioles are 10-for-20 in challenges.

Zach Britton's 27 saves this season lead the AL and are tied for second in the majors. He's one of two relievers this season to own 27 or more saves with a 100 percent success rate, joining the Mets' Jeurys Familia, who's 31-for-31.

The Orioles are 10-4 on Wednesdays, including 6-1 at home. They're 8-4 on Thursdays, including 6-1 at home.

The Orioles are 22-13 versus the AL East, including 16-6 at home. They're 16-6 versus the AL Central, including 11-3 at home and are 8-15 versus the AL West, including 3-11 on the road. They're 5-2 versus the National League, including 4-1 on the road.

Brad Brach hasn't surrendered an earned run in his last 11 outings over 13 2/3 innings, striking out 18 batters. He leads all relievers (minimum 20 innings) with a 0.81 ERA since June 1, allowing two earned runs over 22 1/3 innings.

The Orioles are 13-11 against left-handed starters. They're also 40-2 when leading after the seventh and 43-0 when leading after the eighth. They're 2-32 when trailing after the seventh and 1-33 when behind after the eighth.

The Orioles are 9-22 when scoring three runs or fewer and are 31-18 when they don't commit an error.

Answer: Matt Wieters was ejected in the fifth inning on April 21 for arguing a strikeout against the Blue Jays.

Note: The first 25,000 fans 15 and over attending the Aug. 20 game against the Astros will receive a "Crush" Davis superhero bobblehead that also includes his English bulldog Samson.

Crush is based on the alter ego of first baseman Chris Davis.
