Another one bites the dust

Apparently, it's not a good idea to manage at Camden Yards. It doesn't do much to enhance your job security. The Marlins have fired Fredi Gonzalez and replaced him on an interim basis with Triple-A New Orleans manager Edwin Rodriguez. When is the last time that two interim managers squared off in a three-game series? The Marlins also fired bench coach Carlos Tosca and hitting coach Jim Presley. Imagine if they had the worst record in baseball? Florida is 34-36 after last night's 10-4 victory over the Orioles. Not good enough, according to owner Jeffrey Loria. I don't know whether the Orioles have any interest in Gonzalez. He was just fired this morning. When a player is designated for assignment, I'm immediately asked whether the Orioles will sign him. I guess the same rule applies to managers. One team's trash... I don't expect Gonzalez to pull a Tony Batista and switch clubhouses today. (If that reference flew past you, the Orioles claimed Bastista off waivers from the Blue Jays during their series in Toronto. He walked down the hallway and joined his new team.) I do expect Gonzalez to receive a phone call from Dave Trembley, one of his best friends in baseball. It looks like Hanley Ramirez got his wish. I wonder if he'll be interviewed at his locker later today.

Don't pitch to Hanley
