Arrieta escapes trouble in first, Matusz does not (updated twice)

The first two Blue Jays reached base against Orioles starter Jake Arrieta in the bottom of the first inning. Yunel Escobar singled and Eric Thames walked. Instant trouble for Arrieta, but it was a hollow threat. Arrieta retired the next three batters, and the Orioles rewarded him with Derrek Lee's two-run double in the top of the second. Vladimir Guerrero singled in his first at-bat since coming off the disabled list. Matt Wieters also singled, and Lee followed with a double to left field. Meanwhile, left-hander Brian Matusz gave up a run in the first inning in his latest start for Triple-A Norfolk. The trick: He didn't allow a hit. Matusz walked three Toledo batters, including leadoff hitter Will Rhymes, who stole second and later scored on Ryan Steiby's sacrifice fly. Casper Wells and Jeff Salazar also walked. Matusz ended the inning by retiring Brandon Inge on a ground ball. He threw 28 pitches, 15 for strikes. Instant update: Matusz allowed another run in the second on a single, his two-base throwing error and another sacrifice fly. Update II: J.J. Hardy led off the third with his 15th homer, and the Orioles added another run on Lee's two-out single after pitcher Brandon Morrow committed an error that extended the inning. Mark Reynolds worked Morrow for 10 pitches before striking out. Lee has three RBIs tonight.
