Britton falters in fifth (O's win 6-5)

So much for that 5-0 lead. The Tigers scored once in the fourth inning and four times in the fifth to tie the game, 5-5. Delmon Young's three-run shot, off a 94 mph fastball from left-hander Zach Britton, erased the rest of the Orioles' lead. Well, it was fun while it lasted. Britton has won four of his last five decisions since coming off the disabled list. He had allowed two earned runs or fewer in four of his last six starts, and four earned runs or fewer in his last seven. In his most recent outing, Britton held the Angels to one run and three hits over seven innings Saturday night at Camden Yards, with two walks and seven strikeouts. He's already walked four batters tonight, including Brandon Inge leading off the fifth. Britton also has given up six hits and thrown two wild pitches. Update: Nolan Reimold's infield hit scored Adam Jones with two outs in the sixth and gave the Orioles a 6-5 lead. Reimold has nine RBIs in his last eight games and six in his last four. Jason Berken has replaced Britton in the bottom of the sixth. Update II: Pedro Strop hasn't allowed a run in nine appearances covering 8 2/3 innings since the Orioles claimed him off waivers from the Rangers, but the Tigers came close. Miguel Cabrera doubled with one out and took third on Victor Martinez's sharp grounder to second baseman Robert Andino, who made a nice play to preserve a 6-5 lead. Matt Wieters made a backhanded stop of a 96 mph fastball to prevent a wild pitch, and Strop struck out Ryan Raburn on a slider, which has become the reliever's out pitch. Update III: Jim Johnson wasn't available tonight, so it was up to Kevin Gregg to get the save. He retired the side in order, giving the Orioles their 11th win in their last 16 games. The last time Gregg faced the Tigers on Aug. 14, he didn't retire a batter and allowed four runs on four hits and two walks. It was a much different result tonight.
