Buck Showalter reveals part of his second-half rotation

Orioles manager Buck Showalter announced his starters for the first four games following the All-Star break.

Ubaldo Jimenez, Chris Tillman and Miguel Gonzalez will start against the Tigers at Comerica Park. The Orioles are off on July 20, and left-hander Wei-Yin Chen will start the following night against the Yankees in The Bronx.

Showalter didn't reveal his starter for July 22, but Kevin Gausman would be working on normal rest if recalled from Triple-A Norfolk. He's expected to face the Yankees after starting twice for the Tides.

Wei-Yin-Chen-ALCS-gray.jpgChen starts on Sunday against the Nationals in the final game before the break. He's being held back until the Yankees series to provide a little more rest.

Chen is 2-3 with a 4.15 ERA in six career starts at Yankee Stadium. In his only start at Comerica Park, he allowed five runs and seven hits over five innings on Aug. 19, 2012.

The Tigers are batting .282 against left-handers, which ranks second in the majors. However, their .281 average against right-handers ranks first.

Second baseman Jonathan Schoop is fine after hitting his first career walk-off home run last night, but Showalter isn't ready to start him three days in a row. Showalter said Schoop had "a real active game last night," including all the plays in the field.

Showalter said he hopes after the break that he can "take the wraps off a little bit" with Schoop. He added that he wants to keep his players "in a position physically to do what they can do."

In typical fashion, Showalter isn't consumed with the non-waiver trade deadline and any rumors that may be floating around.

"I dwell on the people we have here," he said, adding that any fixes could come from within the organization.

Showalter will spend part of his All-Star break watching games, with planned trips to Single-A Frederick on Monday and short-season Single-A Aberdeen on Wednesday.
