Detwiler rehab goes well, on track for June 13 return

Left-hander Ross Detwiler's injury rehab assignment for high Single-A Potomac went well Saturday in Woodbridge, Va. Detwiler went 3 2/3 innings, scattering seven hits and allowing one earned run with no walks and four strikeouts. He tossed 60 pitches, 38 for strikes. Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo said the rehab was a positive step for Detwiler. "Yeah, he felt good during the start and after the start," Rizzo said. "We'll see how he feels today and if all checks out today, he should be on schedule, on track to return to the team." Detwiler also told me he felt good after his workout today at Nationals Park. He has been on the disabled list, retroactive to May 16, with an oblique strain. Detwiler told reporters last night that he "didn't feel bad at all. It's the first time I've seen hitters in about a month, so it wasn't completely sharp, but it was good to go out there and get some contact and try to make the fielders work behind me." The P-Nats swept the doubleheader from Frederick 8-7 and 4-3. They are now 36-24 overall and are on a 10-game winning streak. They lead their division by four games. Detwiler is 2-4 with a 2.76 ERA in eight starts this season. If Detwiler feels good all week and in a subsequent bullpen session, he would get the nod to return for Thursday's series finale at Colorado.
