Dickerson makes first start for Orioles

BOSTON - Orioles manager Buck Showalter, wanting an extra left-handed bat for his lineup tonight, is starting Chris Dickerson in right field and using Nick Markakis as his designated hitter in the series finale against the Boston Red Sox. Alexi Casilla is starting at second base. For the Orioles Nate McLouth LF Manny Machado 3B Nick Markakis DH Adam Jones CF Chris Davis 1B Matt Wieters C J.J. Hardy SS Chris Dickerson RF Alexi Casilla 2B Chris Tillman RHP For the Red Sox Jacoby Ellsbury CF Shane Victorino RF Dustin Pedroia 2B Mike Napoli 1B Will Middlebrooks 3B Daniel Nava DH Jarrod Saltalamacchia C Stephen Drew SS Jackie Bradley Jr. LF Alfredo Aceves RHP Markakis has hit safely in seven of eight games. Ryan Flaherty was 0-for-17 before his single in the ninth inning inning last night. Dating back to Sept. 28, 2012, he was hitless for 29 straight regular season at-bats. Flaherty is 2-for-5 against Aceves, but he's on the bench tonight. Jones is 6-for-18 (.333) with a home run. Hardy is 3-for-18 (.167). Wieters is 1-for-12 (.083). Nolan Reimold is 1-for-10 (.100). Davis is 2-for-12 (.167). Tillman is 1-1 with a 2.88 ERA in five career starts against the Red Sox, allowing eight earned runs in 25 innings. He's posted two quality starts. Last year, he went 1-0 with a 1.93 ERA in three starts, allowing four earned runs in 18 2/3 innings. In his two career starts at Fenway Park, Tillman is 0-0 with a 0.82 ERA, with one earned run over 11 innings. Pedroia is 4-for-11 (.364) against Tillman. Dickerson is the 944th player to wear an Orioles uniform, if you need to update your list. The Orioles activated Triple-A Norfolk left-hander Rich Rundles from the disabled list and released him. On Jackie Robinson Day on Monday, April 15, OriolesREACH and Jones will host more than 100 Orioles RBI League players and coaches for a private screening of the new movie "42." The screening will be held at the Landmark Harbor East Cinema at 645 S. President St. in Baltimore. OriolesREACH will provide RBI players with complimentary tickets, popcorn and soda or water. Shamless plug alert: I'm doing a live hit on "The Mid-Atlantic Sports Report" at 6:10 p.m. in front of the Orioles' dugout. Unless it's raining, of course. Then I'm doing it from inside the dugout.
