The Glendale Desert Dogs came up a bit short in the second week of Arizona Fall League play, culminating in a 10-8 loss to Surprise on Saturday.
Glendale is now 3-8 and trails Peoria by six games in the West Division.
It was a tough day for right-hander Austin Voth, who allowed seven runs in three innings on six hits with three walks and four strikeouts. He gave up one solo shot.
His club bounced back from a 7-1 deficit to take an 8-7 lead in the top of the sixth. But the Saguaros rallied with one in the sixth and two in the seventh to win it.
Left-hander Nick Lee pitched a scoreless ninth for the D-Dogs. He has yet to allow an earned run in AFL play.
Third baseman Drew Ward is now hitting .417 in the AFL after a 3-for-5 day. He now has four RBIs.
The 21-year-old Ward has had at least one hit in all seven games he has played, going 10-for-24 with a double, four walks and seven strikeouts.
Shortstop Osvaldo Abreu smacked a double and also stole third. He also had a sacrifice fly RBI.
Left fielder Andrew Stevenson went 1-for-4 with a walk and a run scored.
Abreu is hitting .227 and Stevenson .250.
Right-hander Jake Johansen made two appearances without allowing a run and his ERA is now 1.59. He has surrendered just one earned run in three appearances over 5 2/3 innings.
Ditto for right-hander Ryan Brinley, who also made appearances on Oct. 17 and 20 without allowing a run. He has a 0.00 ERA in three combined appearances.
