Eaton and Robles hit back-to-back homers (Nats lose 3-2)

Nationals right-hander Aníbal Sánchez is seeking his first win with his new team. After starting the season 0-3, Sánchez faced off against the St. Louis Cardinals Tuesday night.

He was lights-out deceptive in the first three frames, allowing one hit and striking out six.

In the bottom of the third, Adam Eaton and Victor Robles connected on back-to-back solo homer off of Cardinals starter Adam Wainwright. For Eaton it was on a first pitch and was his second homer of the season. Robles now has five homers on the season. It was the second time this season the Nats hit back-to-back home runs. Eaton and Howie Kendrick pulled off the feat April 1 against the Pirates.

After three innings, the Nats lead the Cardinals 2-0.

Update: The Cardinals erased the deficit quickly in the fourth. Sánchez walked Paul DeJong, allowed a single to José Martínez and a walk to Yadier Molina to load the bases. Kolten Wong laid down a perfect bunt up the third base line for a base hit to score DeJong. Harrison Bader unleashed a two-run single.

Mid-fourth, the Cardinals lead the Nats 3-2.

Update II: Sánchez finished five innings, allowing three runs on five hits with two walks, a balk and seven strikeouts. He threw 94 pitches, 60 for strikes.

Mid-eighth, the Cards lead the Nats 3-2.

Update III: In the bottom of the ninth against Cardinals right-hander John Gant, Yan Gomes struck out. Howie Kendrick delivered a bloop single just over first baseman Paul Goldschmidt's head down the right field line. Michael A. Taylor was the pinch-runner at first base.

The Cardinals went with left-hander Andrew Miller, who struck out Eaton with a slider for the second out. Robles popped out to the pitcher to end the game.
