Eaton's RBI single answers Guerrero's early homer (Nats fall 5-1)

The Blue Jays got ahead of right-hander Austin Voth and the Nationals in the second inning on a home run from Vladimir Guerrero Jr.

Left fielder Emilio Bonifácio and center fielder Victor Robles went after Guerrero's long fly ball to left-center field. The two collided at the wall and the ball went over the fence for a home run.

Robles appeared to have the ball in his glove for a moment right before the two collided. Bonifácio went down on his back but got up with the help of Robles.

The Blue Jays bullpen had to throw Robles' glove back to him over the fence. It was Guerrero's first homer of the season and came on a 1-1 pitch. It was the Blue Jays' fifth solo homer in the series.

In the second, Starlin Castro slapped a single into left field with two outs off former Nat Tanner Roark. But Roark struck Robles to end the inning.

In the third, Trea Turner delivered a two-out double down the right field line. Adam Eaton singled Turner home to tie the game at 1-1.

Voth has also allowed only one hit and has struck out two.

After three innings, the Nats and the Blue Jays are tied at 1-1.

Update: The Blue Jays quickly regained the lead on a Lourdes Gurriel Jr. solo shot in the fourth. It was Toronto's sixth solo homer in the series. Voth has allowed two hits, both of them homers. Aníbal Sánchez allowed six hits last night, four of them home runs.

After four innings, the Blue Jays lead the Nats 2-1.

Update II: Teoscar Hernández drilled a single to left field to score Joe Panik with two outs in the fifth. The Nats used up a mound visit to check on Voth. He stayed in the game and retired the side.

After five innings, the Blue Jays lead the Nats 3-1.

Update III: Voth did pretty well in his first start, allowing only two earned runs on four hits over five innings. He had two strikeouts with no walks on 70 pitches, 45 for strikes. Roark was better, giving up just one run on three hits over five frames with no walks and five strikeouts. He threw 73 pitches, 47 for strikes.

After six innings, the Blue Jays lead the Nats 3-1.

Update IV: A struggle tonight for the Nats. The Blue Jays added two more runs in the eighth, benefiting from Starlin Castro's second error of the game and a double steal. Rowdy Tellez delivered a two-run single in the rally.

After eight innings, the Blue Jays lead the Nats 5-1.

Update V: Facing former Nats hurler AJ Cole, Turner doubled for the second time in the game to lead off the ninth. But Eaton struck out on a changeup and Howie Kendrick flew out to left field. Asdrúbal Cabrera struck out to end the game.

Final score: Blue Jays 5, Nats 1. The Nats are now 1-4.
