We've completed one inning and the Orioles already trail the Angels 2-0.
Vernon Wells followed up last night's grand slam with a two-run shot off Orioles starter Brad Bergesen.
Bergesen got a double play from Torii Hunter after Erick Aybar's leadoff single, but he walked Bobby Abreu.
A two-out walk. Never good.
Bergesen got ahead of Wells 0-2 and tried to sneak a 92 mph fastball past him. It didn't work. He got too much of the plate, and Wells got too much of the ball.
The Angels scored six two-out runs last night and they've tallied two more tonight. It's been a season-long malady for the Orioles.
Here's another one: The Orioles have been outscored 62-30 in the first inning.
Bergesen has allowed 10 home runs this season, including two in his last start against the Red Sox. He threw 20 pitches in the first inning tonight.
Another bad sign: J.J. Hardy led off the bottom of the first with a single, and was thrown out trying to stretch it into a double.
Update: It's 102 degrees tonight.
I knew it felt cooler.
Craig Tatum has thrown out two runners attempting to steal in the first three innings.
Single-A Frederick's Nick Haughian, a ninth-round pick in 2008, is shutting out Myrtle Beach on two hits over eight innings. The Keys also are being shut out.
Shortstop Manny Machado has two hits.
Brandon Erbe, making his first start at short-season Single-A Aberdeen, allowed four runs and five hits in the first inning against the Batavia Muckdogs.
Cesar Izturis is 0-for-2 with a strikeout as Double-A Bowie's designated hitter.
Update II: Adam Jones led off the bottom of the fourth with his 17th home run to reduce the Angels' lead to 2-1. Jones also has a team-leading 57 RBIs.
Mark Reynolds and Derrek Lee followed with singles, but Nolan Reimold lined into a double play.
Down on the farm, Haughian tossed a three-hit shutout, walking one and striking out one in the Keys' 1-0 victory.
Triple-A Norfolk's Steve Johnson struck out two batters in a perfect first inning, throwing 11 of his 12 pitches for strikes, but the game is delayed by rain.
