Right-hander Erick Fedde (1-0) went seven innings for the win in his Double-A debut as Harrisburg defeated Altoona 5-2. Fedde allowed one run on five hits with two walks and three strikeouts. He also hit one batter. Fedde threw 103 pitches, 58 for strikes.
Overall, Fedde is now 7-4 with a 2.74 ERA in 19 games (18 starts) between Harrisburg and high Single-A Potomac. The only run Altoona scored was a two-out triple in the seventh.
It is impressive to see Fedde go up to Double-A and have such a solid first game. It is usually very difficult to make that jump from the Carolina League to Eastern League competition. This is a great start for Fedde, 23, the Nationals' first-round selection from 2014.
Center fielder Andrew Stevenson went 3-for-5 with a run, an RBI and a double. Kevin Keyes launched his 10th homer of the season, a two-run shot in a three-run first inning. He had two hits, alongside Nick Rickles and Adrian Sanchez.
Harrisburg is now a 1 1/2 games back of Altoona for first place in the Western Division.
