Third baseman Anthony Rendon smacked a double in the fourth inning on Saturday afternoon to extend his hitting streak to 12 games, which matches a career high from June of 2018. He has extra-base hits in 10 straight games, the longest of his career, the longest in the major leagues this season and longest in Nationals history.
The extra-base streak is the longest in baseball since Cleveland's Francisco Lindor from Sept. 7-16, 2017 and Houston's Alex Bregman from July 30-Aug. 9, 2017. The longest in major league history are Atlanta's Chipper Jones with a 14-game extra-base hit streak in 2006 and Hall of Famer Paul Wagner's identical streak in 1927.
Right-hander Max Scherzer (1-2, 2.32 ERA) opposes Pirates right-hander Jameson Taillon (0-2, 3.00). With six or more days of rest, Scherzer is 11-10 with a 3.10 ERA in 32 career starts.
