Right-hander Stephen Strasburg seeks his eighth win in 10 decisions tonight as the Braves arrive at Nationals Park for the first time this season to start a three-game set.
The Nationals are looking to avoid matching their longest losing streak of the season - a four-game skid - after being swept by the Rangers over the weekend.
Strasburg has won both of his starts in Atlanta this season by identical 3-2 scores. In those two games, he has pitched a combined 14 2/3 innings, allowing four runs on 11 hits with three walks and 21 strikeouts. His curveball was employed for eight of the 11 strikeouts on May 21 in Atlanta.
Ryan Zimmerman is out of the lineup for a third straight game with a sore back. Manager Dusty Baker said this afternoon that Zimmerman is improving and he hopes to have him back for Tuesday's game when R.A. Dickey pitches for the Braves.
"He's doing better, he's doing a lot better," Baker said. "I just didn't think it was worth (it). I just decided to wait until tomorrow. And then against a knuckleballer, he doesn't have to rotate quite as hard, quite as violently, to catch up with his fastest pitch. So I decided to wait until tomorrow and hopefully he can be in there. Hopefully, quite a few games until the next off-day."
Adam Lind is starting at first base.
The Nats are 17-12 at home and 21-12 on the road. They are 17-10 against the National League East.
