Can a walk-off winner be more meaningful victory than cruising to a 7-2 victory?
What if you couple the best comeback of the season with a walk-off home run the next game?
Nationals right fielder Adam Eaton said that makes it that much more special.
"Absolutely. We are all human here," Eaton said Friday night following the Nats' 3-2 win over the Marlins on a walk-off home run from Mark Reynolds. "When you come in to the next day, you got a little more to you, you got a little more happier approach to life. Having a walk-off win, everyone is in a little better mood coming to the ball park the next day and have a little more giddyup.
"I think you saw that (last night). Hopefully, these two in a row will propel us into the third game and win the series tomorrow and continue on. Hopefully, that spirit lives on for another day."
The Nats will attempt to harness that momentum for the third consecutive night when right-hander Max Scherzer (10-5, 2.16 ERA) opposes Marlins left-hander Wei-Yin Chen (2-5, 5.55).
Chen pitched well against the Nats on May 26 at Marlins Park, allowing only one run in 7 1/3 innings. But the Nats feasted on the Marlins bullpen for four runs late in a 4-1 comeback win.
Scherzer is seeking his first win since early in June against the Rays. In that game June 5, Scherzer went eight innings and allowed two runs with 13 strikeouts in a 4-2 Nats victory. He has lost four decisions in a row. He leads the major leagues with 174 strikeouts.
