Game between O's and White Sox postponed due to rain (updated)

CHICAGO - The latest downpour and a forecast that calls for rain throughout the night have caused the postponement of tonight's game between the Orioles and White Sox at Guaranteed Rate Field.

The teams are forced to play a traditional doubleheader on Wednesday because the Orioles don't return to Chicago this season. The first game is slated for 4:10 p.m. eastern time, with Game 2 starting approximately 30 minutes after the final out.

Though the Orioles' pitching plans haven't been revealed, it's assumed that Andrew Cashner and David Hess remain the starters to close out the series. Cashner was supposed to take the mound tonight.

The Orioles will attempt to snap their fourth four-game losing streak of the season. They're 10-20 and have scored only seven runs on the road trip.

The weather will have to cooperate. There's more rain in the forecast, and Thursday isn't an option.

This is the second postponement for the Orioles, who also had an April 19 game against the Twins washed away by rain. The Twins swept a doubleheader at Camden Yards the following day.

The bullpen now includes Shawn Armstrong, who was added to the 25-man roster this afternoon as Tanner Scott's replacement. Armstrong is wearing No. 43.

Scott was optioned to Triple-A Norfolk after last night's game.

Trey Mancini is expected to return to the Orioles lineup after sitting out the last two games with a bruised right index finger. He likely would have played tonight.

Hanser Alberto is staying in the lineup, though where he plays is anybody's guess. He's 11-for-29 (.379) during a seven-game hitting streak and tied his career high last night with three hits.

Chris Davis is 12-for-35 (.343) with three doubles, three home runs and 11 RBIs in his last 11 games.

Cashner's best start in 2019 came last week against the White Sox, when he allowed one run in seven innings. He walked only one batter.

Cashner has made six career appearances against the White Sox and registered a 3.51 ERA and 1.753 WHIP in 25 2/3 innings. José Abreu is 6-for-11 with two doubles against him.

Five of the 73 home runs surrendered by Orioles pitching have come from Cashner.

Iván Nova, who would have started tonight, is 0-3 with an 8.42 ERA and 1.753 WHIP in five outings this season. He's allowed 24 runs and 39 hits in 25 2/3 innings.

The Orioles battered him for nine runs and 11 hits in four innings last week at Camden Yards. Davis, Renato Núñez, Dwight Smith Jr. and Joey Rickard homered off him.

Davis is 12-for-38 (.316) with two doubles, five home runs and 13 RBIs against Nova. Jonathan Villar is 5-for-11 (.455) with two doubles and a home run. Rio Ruiz had four hits in six at-bats.

The Orioles didn't post their lineup. Here's how the White Sox would have come after Cashner tonight:

Down on the farm, Triple-A Norfolk's Chance Sisco, Mason Williams and Anthony Santander hit two-run homers in a 9-5 win in Durham.

Luis Ortiz allowed one run in five innings after the Orioles recalled and optioned him Sunday in Minnesota. Sean Gilmartin tossed two scoreless innings and lowered his ERA to 2.95, but only 14 of 31 pitches were strikes.

Update: Hess will start Game 1, followed by Cashner in Game 2.
